With convenient access to several popular recreation sites, and Detroit
less than an hour's drive away, Chelsea is a handy vacation destination for travelers
wishing to escape the rumpus of big-city life in favor of the tranquility and
outdoor opportunities of nature. Located roughly 15 mi (24 km) west of Chelsea,
Waterloo
Recreation Area covers 20,000 acres (8094 ha) and boasts 11 fishing lakes,
47 mi (76 km) of hiking trails and two modern campgrounds. Recreational pursuits
ranging from swimming and kayaking to hiking and mountain biking also attract
a fair share of visitors to Pinckney
Recreation area, just northeast of town. Chelsea has two golf coursesPierce
Lake Golf Course and Reddeman
Farms Golf Cluband several other courses are a short drive away in Ann
Arbor. Summer visitors should be sure to experience Chelsea
SummerFest in July and Riverfolk
Music and Arts Festival in August, family-friendly events that feature arts
and crafts vendors, live entertainment and many activities.
